“Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.” – Roger Caras

We can all use the love and levity that a pet can bring to a household, especially now. Lately when feeling anxious, I’ve been petting my people-lover cat Grayson or re-watching videos of my friend’s dog Rascal—a little white fluffball who always seems to be smiling.

When I’m focused on a beloved animal, I’m not thinking about the news or worrying about people I love. Rather, I’m attune to the sensory input of the moment—the hearty purr of my cat or the outreached tongue and wagging tail of my buddy Rascal as he runs across a hallway in a video sent to me by text.
