“The person attempting to travel two roads at once will get nowhere.” – Xunzi

Having trouble focusing isn’t a new phenomenon, as indicated by this quote from Xunzi (Master Xun), a Chinese philosopher living in the third century BCE. When we pursue two or more paths at once, we halt our progress.

With several missions that matter to me, I often scatter my energy instead of focusing on one pursuit at a time, leading to mistakes, frustration and exhaustion. But when I devote myself fully to an activity—writing, teaching, socializing, cooking, cleaning, grading, reading, meditating, resting—without distracting myself, then my energy soars.
