“Whatever I ‘align’ myself with will create a ‘line’ into my future.”― C. Lounsbrough

When have you felt the need to realign yourself? I’m feeling it now. Although I’m someone who has long benefited from a structured schedule, I’ve let myself get off my regular routine: staying up later, sleeping in longer, eating sweets and exercising inconsistently. After a demanding school year affected by the pandemic, I felt the need to celebrate its end by relaxing my routine this summer. And I enjoyed it.

But I’m not enjoying this “off” feeling that has recently developed. As tempting as it is to stay up late, I know that returning to my routine will help me feel aligned and boost my energy. For me, that means sticking to my daily practices: journaling, exercising, meditating, eating healthy food and reading. As a gesture of my renewed commitment to myself and my well-being, today I began the day by finishing a good book and then pitched the remainder of my favorite Haagen-Dazs ice cream so it no longer lurks in my freezer. These are small steps, but they help me better position myself to build the future I envision.
