“When you are in service of your fellow beings, you are in the service of God.” – Anonymous

Today I was inspired by blind opera singer Andrea Bocelli, who gave a solo performance of Ave Maria in the Duomo cathedral of Milan and Amazing Grace outside of it—a way to spread an Easter message of hope to Italy and to the world. Celine Dion has said that “if God would have a singing voice, he must sound a lot like Andrea Bocelli.”

Born with poor eyesight, Bocelli lost his sight completely at age twelve due to brain hemorrhage following a football accident. Despite that significant setback, his love of music propelled him forward to a flourishing career. Prior to his live-streamed performance, footage of empty streets in Italy and cities across the world emphasized the global effect of the pandemic. Bocelli shared that he believes Easter is “a universal symbol of rebirth that everyone—whether they are believers or not—truly needs right now.”
